After 16 weeks, the first group experienced a reduction in tumor markers and also a reduction in liver cell damage. Researchers from the University of Mississippi in 2007 were comparing among 5-FU (a chemotherapy drug known for colon cancer), epigallocatechin-3-gallate (type of catechin provided by green tea), and thymoquinone. They found that both epigallocatechin-3-gallate and thymoquinone are capable of producing damage in colon cancer cells, comparable to what can be produced by the chemotherapy drug 5-FU.
