Save Your Eyesight With Saffron

July 29, 2015

You may be going to the eye doctor each year with your prescription changing, which means spending more money on glasses.  You may feel that the expensive glasses should correct your eyesight, but yet it has gotten worse.

Many do not realize that glasses will only help them see, but will not help to improve vision.  So one must address the issue at hand, and saffron is just the way to do this.

Saffron has been seen to improve the eye health by eliminating the progression of macular degeneration, which can cause blindness.  Saffron is quite expensive at $800 per pound.  It is found by hand from the deep red stamens of the saffron crocus.   It is used in a variety of ways as a spice, a coloring agent, and treatments for disease.  Saffron can help to treat 90 illnesses.

Saffron contains carotenoids crocin and crocetin, which has strong antioxidant activities.  The health benefits of this spice are due to these two.

A recent study has found that taking 20 mg per day for 3 months will improve the eyes in retinal function as well as visual acuity.  Those that took place in this study ate a diet that contained saffron, in which cell recovery was experienced, which in turn lead to eye improvement.   The saffron may be added to foods as a spice, or it can easily be made into a tea for easy consumption.

Professor Silvia Bisti, who headed the study said:  “Saffron appears to affect genes that regulate the fatty-acid content of the cell membrane, and this makes the vision cells tougher and more resilient.”

There is hope that saffron will be a natural solution for those that suffer from macular degeneration, with the possibility that it will either delay or stop this disease from happening in the first place.
