In a recent study, it has been reported the women need more sleep then men because they use their brains more. Woman are much more likely to experience symptoms of being sleep deprived then men.
The study dealt with men and woman and assessed the ability to function with inadequate sleep. There was a huge difference between the men and the woman.
Woman were more likely to be depressed and angry as well as being hostile in the morning.
Other symptoms of sleep deprivation include impaired immune system, severe yawning, irritability, memory loss or lapses, symptoms that are similar to ADHD, cognitive impairment, aches, tremors, decreased accuracy, risk of heart attack and increase in heart rate variable.
So how much sleep do woman need? Or men?
Well it depends on the mental energy that is expended, which the study found that woman used more of this. The brain will recover as one sleeps. It will also repair itself.
If you use the brain more during the day, it will need to recover more and will need more sleep. Women are likely to multi task so they are really using their brains more then men.
However, males that have complex jobs will need more sleep as they too are using their brains quite a bit.
In another study, there was a correlation between accelerated again and inadequate rest. There are also risks of having blood clots, strokes, heart disease, and psychiatric issues. The average person needs between 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. However, about 80% of individuals fall short on this.
