Why Magnesium?

DIY Magnesium Foot Scrub Recipe

The magnesium salts are quite rough by themselves that is why by using other substances can be smooth and can moisturize and exfoliate irritated and dry skin. By combining liquid substance like almond or olive oil and magnesium we are making the perfect scrub. There is no scent to this scrub but the essential oil can add scent and make the scrub richer.

Many combinations can be made but here are some examples: for floral scent we can use lavender oil and rose petals and for party-like scent the cinnamon and peppermint oil are used. Another combinations are presented here:

  1. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 10 drops lavander essential oil
  2. 5 drops peppermint oil and 10 drops citrus oil
  3. 5 drops lemon oil and 5 drops rosemary oil

If you are intolerant of magnesium salt or simply are not a fan, you can use sugar since it has the same exfoliating effect and it can be combines with many varieties.

Magnesium Foot Scrub Ingredients

  • 1 cup of magnesium flakes or the natural source – epsom salt
  • ¼ cup almond oil or olive one
  • 1 teaspoon liquid castile soap
  • essential oil is optional

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and add essential oils until you achieve the scent. Next, use an air light jar to store the mixture. A teaspoon of the mixture is enough to exfoliate the foot and then rinse it well with Luke water.

Mainly, scrubs can be done at home easily and quickly, but sometimes there are so many combinations that people ask questions like:

  1. How long does it last?

The duration is variable only because we used soap, otherwise the oils and the salt can last forever. The change of the soap’s formula makes the scrub perishable, that is why it is recommended for 6 months of use.

  1. What is the best time to use it?

It is advisable to use it before shower for more easier cleaning and it can be used any time of the day, but many people prefer it at night.

  1. Can I use magnesium oil instead of olive oil?

Magnesium oil is not an oil but a salt solution in a liquid form and has different effect, however it can be used in this scrub. Although over time it can degrade the magnesium becomes more safer for use and even concentrated.

  1. Is there a better kind of liquid castile soap?

It is on your choice to use every brand and scent because it provides soft skin. You can omit it since it is not essential.

  1. Can I use sea salt instead of magnesium?

Of course you can because the salt can exfoliate as well but the result is still the same – silky and soft skin.

  1. Can I use sugar?

The answer is yes. The same effect is provided but there will be no longer magnesium scrub.

  1. Can I use it as a gift?

Handmade presents are trendy and it is very useful too, especially for pregnant women. But you should explain the instruction and the duration of the product.

You can place it in a glass jar and you can even decorate the jar since the jar can be reused. It is safe for septic system and drains. Try this scrub and feel the difference.
